Big Media’s Grip on Our Democracy

By Rep. Alma Hernandez & Councilman Adam Kwasman

It used to be that your neighbors, local newspaper, and town hall helped shape your view of what was happening. Today, too many Arizonans get their news from national cable shows or social media feeds designed to divide us.

Big Media has replaced real local coverage with national outrage. Important issues — like education funding, regional infrastructure, or election reform — get ignored in favor of clickbait. We’ve seen firsthand how misinformation travels faster than truth.

That’s why Democracy Arizona is committed to supporting local journalism, increasing media literacy, and creating platforms (like this one) to keep you informed and engaged.

We don’t have to agree on everything. But we do need a shared understanding of the facts.
